How to Sew a Beanie in 4 Steps?

There are all kinds of quick and easy sewing projects that you can make up in just a couple of hours with the help of your best sewing machine for beginners. One of them is the beanie, which is so easy to make, and so cute to wear.

Bennie is something you can make out of just about any sort of material, including old sweaters, and even moody jeans, and you can have one made and ready to wear in no time flat. Today we are going to give you step-by-step guidance on how to make your very own beanie.

Let’s get started.

Materials you will need:

  • ½ arm-span polar wool fabric
  • Matching thread
  • Straight pins (ball tops are easier to see and use)
  • Sewing needle
  • Sewing machine
  • Measuring tape

Instructions:

The beanie we are working on today will be made from polar fleece material, so it is more of a winter hat. If you don’t have polar fleece, there are additional options. For example, you can cut up an old hoodie or sweater to create this beanie, and it will save you money because you don’t have to go out and buy any fabric.

Before you can begin cutting and sewing, the first task you need to do is measure your head (or the head of the person the beanie is for). Measure around the most substantial part of the head with your measuring tape, and then you can start working on the following steps.

Step 1:
If you have the perfect fabric, the rest task will depend on your best sewing machine for beginners! Cut a piece of polar fleece that will measure as long as the head circumference, plus an additional half-inch at each end for seam allowance. The piece should measure nine inches wide.

Step 2:
After cutting the polar fleece fabric, fold it in half, width-wise, with the right sides confronting each other. Pin the short edges together with straight pins.

Step 3:
Stitch a straight seam along the clasped edge, leaving a one-half-inch seam allowance with your sewing machine. At this point, you will be forming a tube of fabric.

Step 4:
Thread the stitching needle with 24 inches of thread, knotting at the long end. Sew one-inch basting stitches, one-half inch from the top of the tube, along the long edge. Pull the thread to gather the stitches, gently, and adjust the stitches reasonably loose so you can pick the center correctly. Make sure you tie off the end of the thread, so the stitches don’t unravel. This gathered edge will be the top of the beanie.

Turn the beanie right side out. Fold up the bottom edge of the beanie 2 inches to create an excellent finish. You don’t have to stitch this in place, but if you don’t need to be able to adjust the length of this piece, you can run your sewing machine around the edge, so it stays in place when worn.

That’s all there is to make your very own beanie. This project is quick and easy. You can also try to create a more beautiful decoration thing with the best basic sewing machine for starters! You will probably want to make up a few and give them to your friends and family as gifts.
